Arise Coffee Roasters
Lavender Tang
It is a known saying that sometimes the brightest skies appear after the darkest clouds. Lavender, our founder, is a true testament to this.
Whilst the nineteen-year-old Lavender who fell in love with drinking black coffee wouldn’t have predicted the path she took to get here, Arise Coffee Roasters is certainly the destination of her dreams.
Lavender has been faced with a number of obstacles in life. After a fifteen-year break from work during which she focused on family life and raising her three daughters - Amelie, Audrey and Abigail - her world was turned upside-down by the end of her marriage. Battling with depression throughout the following years of her life was no easy feat. Nor was the reality of facing a job market with little experience after devoting her life to her family for so long. But the pull of a finally realised dream sparked something from within Lavender that encouraged her to keep moving forward.
Starting small, she began working as a barista whilst honing her skills at home, investing in tools that helped her to refine her techniques. She poured over resources, learning all there is to know about sourcing, roasting and brewing coffee beans until she was doing it with a flourish. With the support of others encouraging her to nurture her dreams, Lavender was able to overcome each challenge that life threw at her and to eventually grow strong and skilled enough to open her own coffee shop.
Today, Lavender is an expert roaster and coffee connoisseur, with two branches of her very own coffee shop, Arise Coffee Roasters - in East Putney and Ealing Broadway She hopes that her story will inspire others to arise up out of difficult times, and is a true believer that no matter how great the obstacle, and no matter how hopeless one may feel, there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
